Liebherr GNP 1913 Freezer

Product: Liebherr GNP 1913 Vertical Freezer
Purchase URL: Electropremium.es
Price paid: €671,33 plus shipping €29,00 = €700,33

Vendor comments: This was my first time buying from Electropremium.es, and I was fairly impressed. Good prices, decent automated communication emails... not really much else to say. I found this item via Google Shops, and it genuinely seems to be the best price for this model outside of Germany (where it is to be found seriously cheaper...). My only complaint would be the shipping - it took a few days longer than I would have expected, and the guy who finally delivered the freezer was not in any way prepared for a home delivery. It appears the shipping company they use exclusively delivers to shops, so didn't bother calling before attempting to make the delivery, so, inevitably, no-one was home. He then called and agreed to return the following day. He didn't. The day after, he finally arrived, and refused to help bringing the freezer upstairs. Very rude and disappointing service.

Product comments: I chose this freezer based on a few factors.

Firstly, size. I needed a vertical standalone freezer and was slightly shorter than standard height due to the shelving in the room where it was to be placed. This very much limited the choice, especially here in Spain.

Secondly, energy rating. I wanted minimum A++, as we are moving from a very elderly combo fridge/freezer with an A rating, to a full height single fridge and separate freezer, so to avoid taking a big hit on energy consumption, I wanted as effecient an appliance as possible.

Thirdly, independent reviews. Straight to Which.co.uk here. They liked this model, so that was a "tick". Which reviews are great, but because they are solely UK-based, often, the products they recommend are simply not available on the continent, due to there being different models produced, I would assume due to the different plug requirements, or voltage ratings. This is frustrating! Liebherr appear to produce single models for all markets, though, so this wasn't an issue in this case.

Fourthly, brand reputation. Talking to friends and family, the only brands worth considering for fridges and freezers are Bosch and Liebherr. German brands. Solid. Reliable. Teutonic. Like it or not, this did have an effect on my decision to purchase this model.

Fifthly, price. At the end of the day, I wasn't prepared to drop a grand on a freezer, on account of us being poor and that. €700 was still pricy, but I was prepared to pay around that figure for a good quality item that will last well.

So, based on all those factors, I made the purchase. How has it been? Well, so far, so good. I would say that it is a little more noisy than I'd expected (fans etc.), but we are going through a particlarly hot spell of weather at the moment, so conditions haven't been great for a freezer - temperatures inside the room where it sits have been regularly mid-30s, so I'm willing to forgive this for the moment. I will report further when the blessed winter arrives and temperatures drop.

Aside from this, I'm very pleased. It's quick to freeze food, spacious, the drawers are light and easy to open, and there's plenty of space for everything I need. I would recommend this model to others.

I'll post a few photos when I get a moment.

A New Start

My intention with this blog is to have a place where I can share reviews of products I have purchased and used, from my perspective as a British ex-pat living in central Catalonia, Spain and new father. Let's see what happens!
